I am really excited to share with you all this tutorial on getting the perfect winged eyeliner!!!
I’ve been asked a lot of times questions on getting the perfect winged line & this tutorial will talk you through all the tools you need to achieve a perfectly lined eye (without too much tricky business)!!!
Before practising on my eyes ( a lot of practising) 😛 I really couldn’t get both eyes looking symmetrical! But honestly practice makes perfect! I really cannot stress that point enough!
All the tools you need really is a good set of eyeliner brushes – varying from angled ones, to fine pointed ones and a really good gel liner & one trusty liquid liner pen!
|| Gel Liner ||
To outline your eyes you need to invest in a really good gel liner. I would say for beginners drawing on a line with a gel liner ( with an eyeliner brush ) is a really great step to draw strokes ready for you to go over with a liquid eyeliner!
I use my trusty MAC – Fluidline Gel Liner in BlackTrack for this and use various brushes to achieve my cat eye!
My favourite and most easy brushes to use and draw are the MAC – 209 eyeliner brush & Real Techniques – fine eyeliner Brush
I use either of these two brushes to create a really crisp stroke and draw on the tip of the cat eye ( perfect for a precise stroke) !!!
Above I’m using my MAC – 209 eyeliner brush to apply my MAC – BlackTrack Gel liner!
Above I’m using my Real Techniques – Fine Eyeliner brush to apply my Gel Liner!
& if you are trying to achieve a more angled wing I’d use an angled brush. I love the eyebrow brush from Real Techniques & use it sometimes to create more dramatic looks!
Above I’m using the eyebrow brush from Real Techniques & below is the final eye result using that brush!
|| Liquid Eyeliner ||
For liquid eyeliner, it took me many months of practise to perfect the art of applying this bad boy! However, from adding gel liner on the bottom I realised that this makes applying liquid liner on top to define the lines is the easiest and most dramatic finish for your eye makeup!
I’ve trialled so many liquid eyeliners in the past and found that my two favourite and most easiest liquid eyeliners are the Lancôme – Artliner liquid eyeliner & the MAC – Penultimate liquid liner.
I’m going to talk about the Lancôme Artliner in Waterproof and Non Waterproof ones first in this tutorial.
Of the two I prefer I the non waterproof one as it is very pigmented and lasts longer than the waterproof one, and thought I’d mention this as you might think that waterproof one will last longer but instead it’s the other way round!
The Lancôme – (Non Waterproof) Liquid Liner has a detachable brush / separate to the pot of liquid liner! I love this type of liquid liner as it makes the brush lighter to hold instead of carrying all the product and makes it easier for you to not waste product ( from it bleeding out the end )!!! Nothing is worse than clumpy liquid liner on the eye & you have to start from the beginning!
The tip of the Lancôme brush is also fine and easy for you to apply over the gel liner and even alone if you are comfortable with drawing on eyeliner without a guideline base!
I’ve swatched them a bit lower with the MAC one for you to see!
& my other favourite is the MAC – Penultimate liquid liner. The fine tip of the liner pen enables a smooth and highly pigmented stroke & is easy to glide across your eye. This liner has also safely stayed with me for months without running out of product & doesn’t dry up quickly (like most liquid liner pens do)!!!
