|MAC| Velvet Teddy

I am going to dedicate this entire blogpost to talk about Velvet Teddy, a MAC Lipstick craze that took the world by storm with its popularity amongst celebrities such as Kylie Jenner! She definitely caused the lipstick trend to emerge as everyone wanted to copy her infamous 90s Nude lip makeup look!

I’ve been trying to get a handle on this lipstick for over 6 months now & finally a couple of days ago, amongst all sold out items on the MAC Website & even in every MAC Counter and shop you enter!!! That’s how crazy this trend became!

It made me want to try it out & more, especially by reading and seeing how others that managed to secure the lipstick wore their Velvet Teddy & were loving it!

My First impressions Looking at the lipstick, you’re greeted by a lovely pink toned Nude colour mixed with a little hint of beige / brown. So you’re not getting a peachy kind of Nude lipstick and it’s more flesh toned!

Here is the swatch on my lips and on my hand!

Velvet Teddy has a Matte Finish too! I prefer my matte finished lipsticks from MAC. ComparingΒ with other lipsticks I’ve tried such as Mehr, Pink Plaid & Ruby Woo I’ve found that the Matte effect of this particular one isn’t as strong! You kind of feel like the colour is not as Matte as you would expect. I think pairing it with a nude lip liner will definitely matte up the lipstick more! * Just a little suggestion* However, I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all that it isn’t too matte! Some types of Lipsticks with a Matte finish usually dry out your lips but this one has the long lasting effect of a Matte lipstick without looking like it’s crusting around your lips :P!

I should add that this colour definitely works better for more tan coloured skin tones. I think with my pale skin the colour drained me out a little bit and that’s a shame because I really wanted to love this lipstick a lot! I would happily rock this Β lipstick in the summer with my tan but I don’t think it’s a perfect everyday sort of lipstick for my skin tone (at the moment) πŸ˜›

Although I fell into the hype of trying out this trend, I would definitely consider trying this lipstick on your lips in store before purchasing! If you manage to find a sample on the counter! Which is never the case because it’s usually sold out on most counters hehe!

But on that note, if you still have your heart set on picking one up! You can pick up one through their UK Website, but I would hurry as you never know when they’ll become out of stock again πŸ™‚

    1. That’s what I felt about it too 😦 it really drained out my skin tone too! I think it suits really tanned skin tones, otherwise it looks flesh coloured! but it would be perfect with a tan hehe xoxo

  1. Ohhhh, this is pretty! Looks gorgeous on you too!! I like this shade because it is not too brown and not too nude – just the right balance!

    1. thanks sweetie πŸ™‚ I really love the fact that it’s not too brown too πŸ˜› & loved the swatch of it also! But I thought it might suit a tanned skin tone a bit more πŸ˜› so I’ll have to wear this when I get a summer tan hehe! Do you have this one Laurel? πŸ™‚ xoxo

      1. I actually had this a few years back and loved it!!!! I need to repurchase it, but it was a fantastic shade to wear in the summer with a tan! I love how popular this shade is now! πŸ™‚

      2. Hehe, I’m beyond amazed at how much of an influence Kylie Jenner is for it to sell out for a long time! I will have to see how it looks with a tan! You got me excited πŸ˜› πŸ˜› ❀ xoxo

      3. Can’t wait to hear how you like it in the summer! It will look and wear totally different! I can’t get over the Kylie craze either!!!

      4. Can you imagine all the people that have Velvet Teddy as their go to lipstick/holy grail and can’t buy it because it’s sold out everywhere?! LOL!

  2. I’m debating between velvet teddy or lady danger, decisions, decisions!
Thanks for sharing, now i want velvet teddy more, to be honest i didn’t know kylie jenner use this lipstick i knew about it for a blog post recommending nude lipsticks for girls with dark skin

    1. I think this shade will perfectly suit a darker skin tone! I would definitely consider trying this one out! Go into MAC & swatch both next to each other πŸ˜€ I find that’s really the best way to determine whether I want the colour or not :p & you’re welcome glad I could help! I hope you enjoy your velvet teddy when you get your hands on it! xoxo

    1. Thank you so much lovely, I think eyes and skin tone do play a lot with the way a lipstick sits on your skin πŸ™‚ I really like Mehr, it’s a more cool toned pink nude lipstick from MAC xoxox

  3. This shade looks so lovely on you! I have thought about wanting to get this one but I am not sure if it would look good on me with my skin tone. I have a MAC lipstick post going up tomorrow that is similar to this one though. πŸ˜‰ It’s good that this one isn’t too matte because I agree that is really drying. I like matte lipsticks but don’t wear them very much because I have such dry lips! lol. Great review Serene! ❀ xoxo

    1. thanks so much Katie πŸ™‚ I really do think this colour is more suited to darker skin tones :p but I can’t wait to see your alternative because this one didn’t suit my complexion that much :p! & me too! Hehe I dislike the dry feeling of some Matte lipsticks, but this one was very light weight on the skin! So glad it wasn’t a complete disaster hehe ❀ thanks again Katie! You're too sweet πŸ’‹πŸ’—β˜ΊοΈ xoxo

      1. You’re very welcome! :)Well I am glad that you’re able to make it work then. I hope all is well with you! ❀ ❀ xoxo

  4. I will keep it in mind for the summer…and isn’t the name really cleaver? Who can resist something that is called velvet teddy?
I do like nude lipsticks, but those that are (as you say) more flesh coloured as opposed to peach.

    1. Absolutely πŸ™‚ I agree with you the name is too adorable :p it makes you want to try it out more & I love that’s it’s a pure Nude & not a coral sort of mix xoxo

  5. I was eyeing this up for months when it was out of stock 24/7, then after seeing so many images it finally hit me that it’s probably not the right shade for my skin tone </3 It looks absolutely BEAUT on you though, and I'll admire it on others! πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks so much Karen :p I had to give in and try it for myself but am a little sad that it doesn’t have an amazing effect on paler skin tones! Hopefully in the some the colour might look a bit more dramatic :p ❀ xoxo

  6. Thanks for this review! I was dead set on buying this lipstick but one of my friends said it did nothing for her pale skin tone. Now I’ve seen someone else say this I think I might give this one a miss! Joanna xx

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I’m really glad this review helped you also! I think this colour drains out on more paler skin tones but would definitely suit a more tanned skin colour πŸ™‚ what alternatives did you find? I’d love to know xoxo

    1. I know the feeling from buying from their website 😦 I hate the additional Postage charges they price & prefer buying products in store where you can see them! Hope you find it in store somewhere πŸ™‚ thanks lovely xoxo

    1. Heheheh, I think it’s really hard to resist buying a makeup product that is talked about daily :p I fell for this one hehe! You should definitely consider this one though! I think it will suit you perfectly πŸ™‚ xoxo

    1. Thanks Kimmy I absolutely agree I think a darker Nude lipstick will definitely work better than this shade! I feel like it’s a bit too light for my skin colour & feel it would work best on a more tanned skin tone πŸ™‚ xoxo

  7. I love the look of this and have been trying to get hold of it for ages! I tried the sample on my hand in store and loved it, but it is always sold out when I try to buy it. Interesting what you say about the look of it against pale or tanned skin – definitely something to bear in mind! Thanks for the review. x

    1. Thanks so much Kate, It really didn’t look very striking on my pale skin! But I haven’t tried it yet with tanned coloured skin! πŸ™‚ I think I’ll wait until I’m tanned before I make another review about this xoxo

      1. I’ve made posting about nude lipsticks a permanent entry on my blog, like a series! Officially I’m at #6 but there are two more posts that might easily fit into that category!

In case you forgot, here are some of my favourites:

DIOR, that is also my most recent post:

and last, but definitely not least TOM FORD

I hope you’ll enjoy reading them and I’m definitely waiting for a first look kind of and opinion on them! 😁😁😁
        Lots of xx

      2. Thanks sweetie for the recommendations πŸ™‚ I’ll definitely have a look at all of them πŸ™‚ who doesn’t love a good Nude lipstick! Glad you’re jumping on the Nude lipstick bandwagon hehe πŸ’‹β˜ΊοΈ xoxo

      3. absolutely! nudes were the first lipstick shades I’ve ever bought myself, so the jump into “that bandwagon” has been done for quite a while now! LOL
        lots of xx my granny

  8. I have wanted to get hold of this forever but as soon as it came back into stock I had no money and was like NOOOO but I am adamant to get it as it looks so stunning on, such a classic cult product so quickly I think xxx

  9. Hiya hun, what’s up? Thanks for commenting on my last post.
Nice shade however i prefer a bit brighter colors i got a wierd skin complection not many shades suit me i look like a dead girl walking with colors like this one loool, lovely post darling.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Stay in touch.
    Kisses!

  10. Very nice Serene! I was surprised to see that it looks more nude on your lips then when you had the swatch on your hand. It looks a lot darker and redder in your swatch. Hope the weather is gorgeous in London so you can tan quickly and wear it everyday πŸ™‚ Hope you’re well and we’ll speak soon

    Caz | Style Lingua

    1. Thanks so much Caz πŸ™‚ I hope the weather will pick up drastically I need to tan :p or I’ll have to just go on Holiday and tan it up then hehe! Yeah it really does look a lot different on the lips than the hand! But I think it can be due to the lip colour being pink & when the lip colour is a bit more flesh toned the nude lipstick will appear more brown/ red πŸ™‚ xoxo

  11. This is a brilliantly honest review Serene, as most people rave from beginning to end about it with no advice with regard to having pale skin! I’m pretty much a walking ghost at this point so I may give this one a miss, although I’m still super keen to try Twig by MAC! πŸ™‚ Thanks again for helping me out by seeing the blurred photos on my Bloglovin’ by the way – have a lovely weekend!! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks so much Gabrielle, I would give this one a miss if you have pale skin! It just doesn’t highlight your best features in that case! & you’re more than welcome πŸ™‚ I’m glad I could be of some help πŸ’‹πŸ’—β˜ΊοΈ xoxo
